Our county fair comes to town every July. It is a time that people can bring their kids to entertain them with junk food and rides for the week and for others it's a place to go so they don't have to make dinner for a week. It usually appears that creatures of all kinds show up at the fair, all looking to have a good time.
Today, I want to share with you my favorite things about the fair whether you want to know them or not.
1. My very favorite thing about the fair is the Fair Queen Pageant. I love going and watching the young girls of our community represent themselves in hopes to represent our county as Queen. This year I missed the pageant, but my sister kept me up to speed. The court this year is neat because it's full of sisters. The Queen and the 2nd Runner Up are twins & then the 1st and 3rd runner up are sisters! Does it get any better than that? Those girls are going to have such a special week and make so many memories.
2. Fair food! Who doesn't love it? This year I work a lot during the fair, so I probably won't get there as much as I would like but some of my favorites are pork producers, funnel cakes, taco in a bag, and ice cream!
3. 4h exhibits. Although no one may know or guess, I was a 10 year 4h member. Back in my "glory days" I showed pigs as a young girl and then when my dad realized I would never grow out of being terrified of my pig, he let me stick with crafts like Scrapbooking or jewelry making. The Scrapbooking always went pretty well for me, but I was less than motivated to do the jewelry as I usually made it on the way to judging and I was once told by the judge that her "kindergarten granddaughter could have made it." Ouch. However, my sister has a record of getting champions on her quilts (a project that my grandmother loves to see her do).
4. Animals. You can't go to the fair and not look at the animals. Kids and their families really do work SO hard to get their animals show ready, not only that but they spend a lot of time just prepping to get their animal to the fair. I love looking at the horses and sheep as well as the little hands on the farm barn with all the baby animals.
5. Finally, the grand stands. I have a feeling this will be more of my favorite this year as I will be in the grand stands watching Leighton pull or drag race his truck. Many of the pulls have already been cancelled this summer due to all of the rain we have had, so I hope & pray that it stays nice and dry so I can watch him!! It really is so fun even for a few minutes to watch him go down that track with so much power. I know I have said it before, but it's just so fun & rewarding to watch the one you love do what they love to do. The grand stands also have fun events like the greased pig contest that is very fun to watch. I haven't always been one to enjoy the grand stand activities, but with Leighton I am sure too 😊
Hope those of you going to the fair will enjoy the week of junk food, late nights and tired legs. I know I will!! 🎡🎠⭐️
