Hello! I know I said I would be writing more frequently, but then again...life happened & I got super swamped and my blog had to take the back burner. However, I am FINALLY sharing a short tutorial on how I do my boho-inspired braid. I wanted to start with this braid, after receiving a request, but if there are other braids that you would like to see, let me know! I love getting suggestions & I am known for being a 'braid fairy' amongst my sister and friends. So I would love to share more or learn a new braid to teach you all. :)
Let's get started!!!
Let's get started!!!
First--I want to show you where I part my hair so that you can see it compared to where I part my hair for the braid. It is important to part your hair over a little more than normal so that the braid looks similar to a headband over your head than simply lying on only one side of your head.
Next, pick up a small section of hair closest to your part. Then divide that section into 3 small pieces. You want them to be small so that they can pull out to be larger in the end. It'll make sense once we get there!! Because this is a dutch braid, meaning you want the braid to look fuller on top, you are going to put the outside pieces UNDER the middle strand. This gives it the lifted effect! As you move down the braid, just remember to always go under instead of over! It took me a while to get the hang of this. When you get to about the end of your eyebrow, I start braiding away and leaving hair to frame my face. This is a personal preference.
Once you get to the end of the braid, secure it with a small elastic band, but not too tight! You want to be able to loosen the braid to yet again...get the lifted boho effect. I typically will start from the bottom of the braid and work my way up when pulling the braid loose. When I get to the top of the braid, I hold the bottom secure and pull the top strands lose while still keeping it's shape.
That's about it!! You can pull the braid as lose as you want, however you think it looks best.
I think this braid is PERFECT for fall, my hair usually is difficult and doesn't like to stay straight, so sometimes a braid helps to maintain a fresh look.
I hope you enjoyed this video & it inspires you to try out a new look! I am going to post a little clip on my instagram (@sprinkleofsarcasm) of this braid, so check it out and if you don't already, follow me!
Thanks for reading!
