This blog is something very near and dear to my heart, although definitely out of my comfort zone. This week I got to collaborate with the fabulous Jess from the blog Positively Oakes (I will leave her info below!)
So below you will read a letter to the father of my future children. Yes you can go ahead and assume I wrote this with Leighton in mind. Disclaimer: NO I am not expecting. This blog post was just a sweet little way for me to put into words what I hope my future looks like.
Hope you enjoy!! 😊
Follow Jess on Instagram @positivelyoakes & see beautiful photos of her sweet family. Also read her blog, she focuses on the motherhood community, and although I'm not a mother...I enjoy reading her posts. She's that good!! You can find them at www.positivelyoakes.com
A Letter.
To the father of my future children,
We aren’t married yet, but I know who you are. We started off telling our families we were ‘just friends,’ and quickly became inseparable; like I knew it was you all along. We’ve talked about everything, our hopes, our dreams, what we want and see in our future. Our visions have always fit together. I have fallen head over heels in love with your morals, your determination and everything that you are. Since the first day I saw forever with you, I saw the man that would be the most amazing husband and someday father to our someday children.
I hope that children come easy for us, although I fear they won’t. I’ll hold your hand tight knowing we’ll get through it together. I’ll pray it only makes us stronger. And when we do find out we are expecting, we can shift our worry to how we are ever going to take care of another human being. I’ll pray for a girl, you’ll hope for a boy. We’ll promise each other that nothing will change, but it will. Adding a little person to our family, that will require so much attention, things will have to change. Date nights will turn into family nights, country cruises will turn into trying to get the baby to sleep, and naps will seem like a blessing. We’ll be exhausted and it’ll seem worth it. They say that seeing your husband hold your child for the first time makes you fall in love with them so much more yet in a different way and I think I’ll feel the same. I’ll watch you hold our baby and with each little move he/she makes you’ll panic just a little hoping everything is okay. With the first time our baby wraps their little fingers around yours, you’ll know you’re already in deep. You’ll know that even as a stranger, they hold all your love. As they grow up, we’ll remember all the firsts. The first time they smiled or laughed, their first words, first steps, and we’ll smile and remember how it all started. Two people in love sharing the same dream. I know you’ll be the dad that lets nothing slow you down. If given a son, you’ll say there’s no other option than to take him along. You’ll raise him up right, right beside you…working on your trucks or playing in the mud. If given a girl, you’ll worry about how you’ll be able to handle it when she grows up. You’ll remind her every day of how special she is. I’m sure there will be days harder than others. I’m sure there will be days that seem too easy. I’m sure there will be days that I make lists of countless chores for you to do. I’m sure there will be days that I need you to pick the kids up or run them around while I’m at work. I’m sure there will be times we don’t agree on how we should discipline them. But I am sure I will never forget how much I love you and how we are a team. I’ll watch our children climb up on your lap around bedtime and my heart will skip a beat as I am reminded of the father I always knew you’d be. For a dad doesn’t just take care of a child, but he takes care of the whole family.
Two people that started it all. One happy family. One shared dream. One great life.
With love,
The mother of your future children
